Hank Williams Jr. Releases 4 Disc Box Set Complete With 64 Hits

After its release on June 17, the project dropped to number one. #1 on the current Country, Americana/Folk and Blues albums chart and climbed to #1. 2 on the current rock and record chart of Independent Current Albums.

“It’s beyond my wildest dreams,” Williams, 72, said after learning the album would debut at No. 1. 1 in many genres. “What a great feeling.”

Grammy-winning producer of the year Dan Auerbach spent three days recording a 12-song live set featuring Robert Johnson, Lightnin’ Hopkins, R.L. Burnside, Muddy Waters and others. Electric slide guitarist Kenny Brown, bassist Eric Deaton, drummer Kenny Kimbrough, Williams, Auerbach and the band brought the blues to life throughout the album.

“If you wanted to play this kind of music, you couldn’t get better players,” Auerbach explains. “I saw Hank Jr. for the first time. On TV, I was the kid who grew up in the family of Robert Johnson and Hank Williams Sr. The notes and everything came out so clearly when I watched it. So I tried to put the right pieces together to fit exactly the part of who he is.”

“It’s that rawness and how real it is. I’ve always looked for the rawest, darkest material,” Orbach adds. “Once we were in it, once we started playing, Hank invested. It got everybody up to really challenge each other.”

Hank Williams Jr. He adds with a laugh, “You bring who you are. All of this… all of this… that’s where my music comes from. When we got into the studio, the more we played, the deeper we got into it—and the more we got into it, That made it harder for me to leave. Those songs are right for the moment. “It is what it is,” says Williams, still laughing. “You know, that’s the point. The blues is what it is – and whoever you are, it has a dose of your name on it. You can destroy it, or you can stand and play guitar, witness it and throw it hard to get away with it.” “I was a pretty good Roy Ackf impersonator, but then I realized they already had Roy Ackf, so I started singing like me.”

Hank Williams became one of America’s first country music superstars, with hits like “Your Cheatin’ Heart” before his death at age 29.

Hank Williams is considered one of the most popular country music singer/songwriters in America with songs like “Cold, Cold Heart”, “Your Cheatin’ Heart”, “Hey, Good Lookin'” and “I’ll Never Get Out of This World” .” Hai.” He died of a heart attack at the age of 29 in 1953 in the back seat of his Cadillac.

Widely regarded as country music’s first superstar, Hiram “Hank” Williams was born on September 17, 1923 in Mount Olive, Alabama. Cut off from rural resources, Williams, the third child of Lon and Lily Williams, grew up in a family that never had much money. His father worked as a lumberjack before entering a Veterans Administration hospital when young Hank was just six years old. Father and son rarely saw each other for the next decade, when Williams’ mother ran a rooming house and the family moved to Greenville and then Montgomery, Alabama.

His childhood was also shaped by a spinal condition, spina bifida, which set him apart from other children his age and he developed a sense of detachment from the world around him.

The world he most identified with was the musical sounds coming from the radio and coming from the church choirs. A quick study, Williams learned to play folk, country and, thanks to African-American street musician Rufus Payne, the blues.

When he moved to Montgomery with his mother in 1937, Williams’ musical career was already in motion. Having first picked up the guitar at the age of eight, Williams was just 13 when he made his radio debut. A year later, he was competing on talent shows and had his own band, Hank Williams and his Drifting Cowboys.

Williams’ musical aspirations were fully supported by his mother, Lily. He brought his son and his band to shows in South Alabama. In the early 1940s he caught the attention of music executives in Nashville.

But alongside Williams’ obvious talent as a singer and songwriter grew an addiction to alcohol, which he began abusing to ease his sometimes excruciating back pain. As a result, it is not considered a reliable operator.

Williams’ personal life took a major turn in 1943 when he met Audrey May Shepherd, who was the mother of a young daughter and had recently left a troubled marriage. Under Williams’ tutelage, Shepherd began playing bass and performing in his own band.

Williams and Shepard married in 1944. They had a son, Hank Williams Jr., on May 26, 1949.

Apparently, Shepard was desperate to make it in show business and, despite her limited talent, encouraged her husband to sing. In addition, his relationship with Williams’ mother became complicated. They were often rivals for Williams’ time and attention.

In 1946, Williams traveled to Nashville to meet with music publisher Fred Rose and Acuff-Rose Publications. What began with Williams writing material for singer Molly O’Day eventually gave way to a record deal with the newly formed label MGM.

A year after her first meeting with Rose, Williams had her first hit, “Move It On Over.” In April 1948, he scored his second Billboard hit with “Honky Tonkin'”.

But with this early success grew Williams’ erratic behavior, often appearing intoxicated at live shows. For a time, his relationship with Fred Rose soured, but the two were able to mend fences, paving the way for Williams to become a regular on “Louisiana Hayride,” a Saturday night show hosted by a Shreveport radio station.

The shows greatly increased Williams’ name recognition, but she still lacked a number one hit. All that changed with the release of “Lovesick Blues” in 1949, a throwback to an old show tune he had written at the end of a recording session.

The song resonated with music fans as well as executives at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, who invited Williams to perform.

Unbelievably for this poor country boy, Williams’ life changed quickly. His stardom put money in his pocket and gave him the creative freedom he had long wanted. Over the next few years, he produced other big hits, including “Cold,
