How To Grill Salmon On A Cedar Plank

Preparing salmon is very easy. Slicing salmon on a cedar plank is easier and less intimidating than simply tossing a salmon fillet directly onto the grill. The fish are thin and can easily fall apart on the grill. Using a board solves that problem, allowing the fish to stand up and cook well. Be sure to follow the instructions for soaking the board before using it. Yes, it’s wood, it can burn!

If you want some ideas on what to use with grilled salmon, here are some great options to try.

First, clean the boards to remove dust and soak the cedar boards for two hours in warm water. Completely submerge the board in the water. Be sure to soak the board before using it to prevent burning. No kidding, it’s wood, it will burn!

In a small bowl, combine the olive oil, lemon juice, and minced garlic. Arrange salmon fillets in a shallow dish. Drizzle or rub lemon-garlic oil over salmon fillets to coat. Season the salmon with salt and pepper. Arrange lemon slices on top of fillets. Let stand 15 to 30 minutes.

How To Cook Delicious & Easy Cedar Plank Salmon Fillets

Preheat your grill to medium heat. Place moistened cedar log on preheated grill, close grill and heat log for 3 to 5 minutes. This starts the smoking process.

Place the salmon fillets on the cedar plank, close the grill and cook for about 20 to 30 minutes or until cooked through. The internal temperature should be 145 degrees Fahrenheit. Grilling times may vary depending on salmon cut and grill.

When done, carefully remove the salmon from the grill and let it rest on the cedar planks for 5 minutes.

Tip: check your fish. It will start to brown around the edges and should come off easily when done. I tried to keep my grill above 400 degrees Fahrenheit and below 500 degrees Fahrenheit and it cooked perfectly within 25 minutes. Yours may take less or more, so check after 15 minutes and then a few minutes after that. Happy BBQ!

Baked Cedar Planked Salmon is one of the oldest tips in my book. My parents taught me to do this ten years ago. It is very easy to throw and adds an irresistible flavor. Cedar provides a unique woody, slightly smoky flavor in a short period of time. That is the true beauty behind every trend.

With my recipe, I dress the salmon with a little maple syrup and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. It is the perfect complement to the flavor and aroma that the cedar brings to the salmon without overpowering it.

A Step By Step Guide To Grilling Cedar Plank Salmon

The process is very simple. There is an important step before you start. Soak the cedar in water for about 1 hour before throwing it on the grill. Of course, we’re not trying to start a grill fire. Well, if the cedar is red and gold (it will be), we just want to avoid overheating.

This recipe can be made with different pieces of salmon or with a large fillet that you will cut yourself. My only advice would be to remove the skin to get the full flavor of the wood.

Place the salmon on the board right on the grill grates (directly over the hot sauce) and cook with the lid down for 15 minutes, depending on the desired temperature for the salmon. No need to flip. As a note, you don’t have to worry about putting out a hot fire when putting a log on the grill, the idea is to smoke/char the log.
