The Best Dinner Rolls

I have been a fan of my bread machine for a long time. It takes all the work out of bread and pizza dough, and turns into a consistent product every time. But, it takes an hour and a half to stretch and be ready for decorating/baking – and then you have to give it more time to rise….and I needed them (and dinner) to be ready soon.

Can I run to the store? Sure. but why? When I can make these little beauties from scratch (and now, you can too!!)

For me, in my oven – they take 30 minutes. However, readers have reported that a few extra minutes in the oven are required. Since room and oven temperatures are different, this is completely understandable. I live in Arizona, so my house is usually very hot, which probably also speeds up my wake-up time.

I have included in the post step-by-step photos and instructions, as well as tips and tricks. If you want to skip all that, go down to the full recipe card at the bottom of the post.

Quick Dinner Rolls With Yeast

I’m always looking for ways to make your bread baking experience as smooth as possible! I realized that I still have to offer a quick recipe for making dinner rolls. Any dinner, casual or gourmet, will be much better with this easy recipe.

Double Quick Dinner Rolls Recipe

I usually use regular active dry yeast in dinner rolls, but this time I used instant yeast, which means you don’t need to activate the yeast in hot water, you can mix it with other ingredients. The second change I made is that I significantly reduced the assembly time. Two rises are usually required when making bread or rolls. This time, I only have short 10 minute intervals. Your rising time is greatly reduced with this method, while resulting in gorgeous, fluffy buns.

The rising ability of your dough comes entirely from the yeast. There are several factors that can cause your yeast to not proofread properly:

This is another time that your environment comes into play! If you live in a humid place, you may need a little more flour to get the same results than if you live in a dry climate. If you need to add a little more flour than you want, that’s perfectly fine. Add a little more at a time until your dough becomes soft and elastic.

If your dough rises but the dinner rolls are delicious or not as soft as you expected, it will be because of too much flour. It is better to start with 3 cups of flour and add a tablespoon once or twice until the dough is drawn to the sides of the bowl.

You noticed that the dough didn’t rise much, it’s a matter of yeast. See the section “My dough did not rise” for more detailed information.

Allow your dinner rolls to cool completely at room temperature before storing them so they don’t get soggy. Transfer the buns to a large freezer bag, a bread box, an airtight container, or even a cake plate with a dome to keep them fresh.

These instant dinner rolls will last up to 5 days at room temperature or up to 9 days in the refrigerator. If desired, they can be reheated in the microwave for a few seconds before serving.
