From the salt marshes and tidal creeks of Head Island, these delicacies are renowned for their tender flesh and sweet, delicate flavor. With their bright blue claws and olive green shells, blue crabs are easier to spot and cook.
Just take a large pot and steam the crab in a few inches of boiling water for about 20 minutes. You can use a mixture of water and beer or vinegar and some Old Bay for seasoning. Just be sure to keep the lid on the pot during the steaming process. When thoroughly cooked, the shell of the lobster will turn a bright orange color.

A mainstay of South Carolina food culture, shrimp can be found on nearly every Hilton Head Island menu. Although local residents can harvest up to 2,000,000 pounds of these exquisite shellfish each year, sustainable initiatives and practices protect our pristine coastal environment from overfishing.
Of course, no trip to the island is complete without a plate of shrimp and grits or the Lowcountry Boil, where crawfish is king (and corn and sausage are just the sidekicks).
Gumbo is one of the oldest and most beloved foods in the South, although its exact origins are somewhat difficult to trace. Most agree that it combines ingredients and culinary practices from several cultures, including African, French, Spanish, and German, and that the name “gumbo” comes from the West African word for okra (which makes sense, since the recipe mostly uses okra as a food). thickener).
In addition, bambus consist mostly of strong stock, meat or seafood, and the “Holy Trinity” of vegetables: onions, celery, and bell peppers. While shrimp is typically used in these heavily spiced stews, we thought we’d give a different take on a classic Lowcountry dish: chicken and andouille sausage bambu.

One of the state’s most iconic foods, cornbread has been a South Carolina staple since the 1700s. In fact, it was such a part of everyday life that 34 cornbread recipes first appeared in The Carolina Housewife, a regional cookbook published in 1847.
The cornbread debate continues today (at least until a consensus is reached between the ingredients). Sugar or no sugar? An egg? a writer? To flour or not? These are just some of the questions that await discussion. But no matter how you slice it, one thing remains the same: cornbread be damned.
Given that South Carolina is the second largest producer of peaches in the United States, it’s no surprise that peaches are so popular here. Peaches add bright flavor to dozens of dishes, from crisps and crisps to salads and salsas.
Of course, the “Tasty Peach State” is truly famous for its peach cobbler. This classic peach dessert with baked cookies or pasta is so easy to make — especially with this recipe that’s a hit every time.
