Nokia 1.4 – HMD Global launched the Nokia 1.4 as an entry-level phone in early February this year, the new model has a few upgrades from the previous Nokia 1.3. The Nokia 1.4 is among the best budget-friendly devices in the market today at just PHP4,990.

The packaging of the Nokia 1.4 comes in a simple and minimalistic box with some great features on the back and a large image on the front panel.

Inside the box is the Nokia 1.4 unit, micro USB charging cable, USB charger, quick start guide, product and safety information, SIM pin ejector, screen protector (already installed on the screen), earphones and protective case holder .

The Nokia 1.4 is built with a tough polycarbonate plastic back with dual rear cameras along with a center-mounted LED flash. Below the rear camera is the fingerprint scanner, followed by the Nokia matte finish logo and the speaker on the top left.

For our lighting unit, we have the Fjord Blue color which looks great in the background. It has a matte finish instead of a glossy finish to protect those unwanted fingerprints and keep it safe in any hand.

On the front, you have the entire display covered by glass with thin bezels visible on the edges, while the dew point or V-notch houses the selfie camera at the top and another Nokia logo at the bottom.

On the right side you have a regular place for the volume keys and the power button. A small SIM/memory card slot and a dedicated Google Assistant/Google Search button on the left. The top has a 3.5mm audio headphone jack, while the bottom has a micro USB charger port/jack and a microphone.

On the screen, the Nokia 1.4 offers a 6.51-inch HD+ edge-to-edge display which is the screen size for me which is more than enough for browsing, playing games and watching your favorite movies on it. It has 720 × 1600 pixels in a 20:9 aspect ratio.

By using a phone indoors with a screen, you get beautiful colors and see everything clearly. But the screen quality is a bit problematic in bright sunlight, even when I have enough light. For me I have no reason to complain, note that this is an entry phone based on the good value it offers. So if that doesn’t bother you, you won’t be disappointed with the Nokia 1.4. After all, we can’t use our phone all the time in the bright summer weather, especially in our country.

Nokia 1.4 has Qualcomm 215 Mobile Platform 64-bit CPU architecture with 4x ARM Cortex A53 quad cores and 1.3GHz CPU clock speed. The CPU offers great performance in its dual camera setup and power efficiency by providing powerful audio and sensors. Our review unit has 2GB of memory and 32GB of storage.

The operating system used on Nokia 1.4 is Android 10 (Go edition), this is another version of Android designed to run on an entry-level smartphone with a memory of 512MB to 2GB of RAM. With Android Go, it takes less space for the Nokia 1.4 to store more apps and media files. It’s also ready to receive the Android 11 (Go edition) update, but it’s not available yet, although I did receive some minor updates and security fixes when I turned on the phone for the first time.

We were able to play games on the Nokia 1.4 like Asphalt 8 and PUBG. I’ve noticed that downloading can take a while and since it only has 32GB of storage, it can eat up a lot of your storage.

No bloatware or custom skins, you get stock Android with no additional pre-installed apps, just Google-branded apps. There are no major changes and you will know it immediately as soon as you use Android Go.

The system already takes up 5.1GB of storage space, leaving you with at least 27GB for your files and apps. But don’t worry, well you have a MicroSD card slot that supports additional storage up to 128GB.

Overall, the operating system built on the Nokia 1.4 is clean, simple and optimized to deliver the best performance based on its CPU capabilities. But I have had some stuttering while using the device, but not often or all the time. I thought it might have something to do with the chipset, but not the OS itself.

Nokia 1.4 Review: For Less Than £100, You Can’t Do Much Better

The Nokia 1.4 comes with dual cameras on the back with an 8MP sensor with autofocus and a 2MP main lens with LED flash in the center. For your selfies, the front camera offers a 5MP lens.

There’s nothing fancy about the Camera Go app, it’s simple and everything you need to control or use to shoot is easy to find. They also added a save icon in the top left corner that lets you see how many shots you have left before you run out. It has autofocus to automatically adjust what your subject is focusing on, but you can also tap to adjust your shot if you’re comfortable with that.

The recording modes you can choose from are Portrait, Photo, Video and Translate. The Translate Mode works when you point your camera at the text or text you want to translate. But to do this, you need to be connected to your internet or Wi-Fi data.

The built-in camera can be used through the Photo mode, which is placed above the shutter button, which is indicated by the image of flowers and next to the image of the zoom function.

For video, the Nokia 1.4 can shoot 720p at 30fps by default with no other settings to choose from. There is also a saving icon that shows you how many minutes you have left to record before you run out of space, while on the other hand you can turn it on.

This phone has a large 4,000 mAh battery which Nokia claims can give you up to two days of battery life. You can also manage your battery through the phone settings. The battery saver option allows you to extend your battery life when it reaches 15% and turn on the black head again. Battery Manager, on the other hand, identifies apps that often drain your battery with the option to disable these apps. You can check your battery usage in the top right corner, just click on the three dots.

Charge the phone using a micro USB device via a 5-watt USB charger. Here you can relax a little because it took us about 4 hours to charge the Nokia 1.4 from zero to 100%. The battery had 4% charge after 15 minutes, 30 minutes will give you 18% charge and the battery only went to 48% charge after 1 hour.

The Nokia 1.4’s standby time is also impressive, while we didn’t use the phone that day, it could use a little more battery life. The two-day battery life that Nokia claims can last a day. The battery can last a full day if we try to use the device continuously while playing games and downloading videos.

For device security, you have several options like Fingerprint Scanner on the back, Face Lock, PIN, Pattern and Smart Lock. It also has Google Play Protect which constantly scans your apps and device for any potential threats or threats.

Besides unlocking your phone, you can also use the fingerprint sensor to authorize your purchases and use apps.
