Our voters came together and came up with the first list of the season.
John Calipari looked almost relaxed. In the AT&T Stadium locker room in the postgame shower, Calipari was talking, for the 14,000th time, about how young his super-talented national runner-up was, as a season that was at once exhilarating and thrilling came to an abrupt end. He was proud of them. He also looked tired.
“I’ve never coached a team this young,” Calipari said. “Never. Hopefully I’ll never be again. I guess all these guys are coming back, so we should be good.”
Espn’s New College Basketball Scorebug Is Not Going Over Well
This spring, these guys (saves Julius Randle and James Young) really bounced back. Toss in another star-studded recruiting class, and the 2014-15 Wildcats aren’t the most talented team in the country: They have 10 starters for five spots (and nine McDonald’s All-Americans), plenty of experience and a national title pole position as a clear result.
Calipari isn’t talking about youth these days. He’s too busy testing his mad-genius platoon idea. Does it work? who knows The fun part — for Calipari and for the rest of us — is finding out.
John Calipari’s platoon system — he has two six-man units that can each rank in the top 25 — works so well that it could become the new paradigm in college basketball. All 12 guys buy in, go full speed for a while and play for each other instead of playing for draft position. The prize is a national championship — and another selling point for Coach Cal to use in future recruiting.
Equal playing time leads to equal frustration among 12 more ambitious players. By committing to a platoon, Cal doesn’t give itself the flexibility to make situational changes, which hurts the team in close games and the Harrison twins struggle to find their rhythm in minutes. The depth goes from strength to weakness and the Cats are out early in the tourney.

Cal’s teams rely on dialing in from deep, which tells the story of the past two seasons. Finding replacement threat SG James Young (2.1 3s per game) is key. – Eamonn Brennan and John Gassaway
Coach Sean Miller has a large squad of players with the physical ability to match any team in the country. But there’s also a unique element to Miller’s roster. The arrival of Stanley Johnson and the first-year big man’s ability to play multiple positions will allow Miller to switch between big and small lineups as he sees fit throughout the season.
Johnson is a 6-foot-7, 230-pound wing who weighed 6.7 percent body fat the day he arrived in Tucson. He’s a genetic freak with the speed to play shooting guard and small forward but the instincts and strength to thrive on the interior. Johnson’s addition gives Miller options he lacked last year. He could have gone with a traditional lineup that featured T.J. McConnell, Gabe York, Johnson or Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Brandon Ashley and Kaleb Tarczewksi. But what if he wants to step outside the box or break the box?
Miller can roll with McConnell, Johnson at shooting guard, Hollis-Jefferson at the 3-spot, Ashley and Tarszewski. If Arizona faces a faster, lighter opponent, it could use a McConnell/York/Hollis-Jefferson/Johnson/Ashley arrangement. The bottom line is that not only are the Wildcats huge (7-footer Dusan Ristic and 6-7 Craig Victor will come off the bench), they are adaptable.
The New Scoreboard For College Basketball On Espn
Freshman F Stanley Johnson has been more effective than Aaron Gordon – especially on offense. He forms a deep, big frontcourt with Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Caleb Tarczewski and Brandon Ashley, while T.J. McConnell provides excellent leadership on point. Coach Sean Miller eventually leads his team into the Elite Eight and challenges for the title.
No one fills the void left by Nick Johnson as a shooting guard and clutch scorer. A lack of veteran leadership keeps the team from title-level chemistry, and the offense remains chronically ineffective. Once again, the Wildcats knock on the door to the Final Four but fail to make it down
Last year Zona’s D forced 2-point J’s – the game’s least effective shot – more than anyone else. But can the Cats repeat without top defenders Gordon and Johnson? – Eamonn Brennan and John Gassaway
Once they could physically move, to leave the court where time and, worse, the scoreboard were frozen, Wisconsin basketball players made their pledge.
The Lineup: 8 Superstitions You Didn’t Know Espn Commentators Have
It would take 13 years for Bo Ryan to reach his first Final Four. His badgers have no intention of making him wait for another trip.
Wisconsin missed a shot at the national title game in absolutely agonizing fashion. The Badgers were 17-for-17 at the free-throw line — until Trayvon Jackson missed the first of three with 16 seconds left. Kentucky’s Aaron Harrison didn’t hit a 3-pointer all night — until he sank the game-winner.
A favorite sports story is bouncing back from a bitter defeat. Wisconsin is actually built to tell a story. The Badgers return four starters, anchored by Frank Kaminski and Sam Decker, and seven of their eight-man rotation. Overall, more than 80 percent of Wisconsin’s offense returns, making the Badgers a hot pick to reach the next Final Four.
Of course, for Badger, it’s not enough to just bounce back. He has promised to go ahead.
Ncaa Basketball: 2021 Espn Events Invitational Preview And Predictions
Coach Bo Ryan used last year’s Final Four run as a springboard for an even better team. PF Frank Kaminski becomes Big Ten POY and SF Sam Decker (12.4 ppg) joins him on the All-Big Ten team to form the best front court tandem in America. And, of course, an allergy to Wisconsin bugs is emerging.
The Badgers didn’t get the improvement they expected from forwards Duje Dukan and Nigel Hayes, and SG Josh Gasser didn’t return as expected in his second season after knee surgery. The Badgers struggle to rebound and can’t stay in front of the ball on D, causing them to lose quite a few shootouts.
The Badgers will score on anyone, but last season’s defense was Madison’s best
