SINGAPORE – Seven Singaporean restaurants feature in the 10th edition of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list, announced on Tuesday (March 29).

French restaurant Odette at the National Gallery in Singapore dropped out of the top five, sliding six places to no.
Tokyo Den Restaurant, ranked No. 3 years ago, took the top spot on the list. This is the second time a Japanese restaurant has received the top award since the awards began in 2013.
Bangkok’s Sorn and Le Du took second and fourth respectively. In third place is Florilege in Tokyo, which climbed four places compared to last year.
The strongest rally for Singapore came from Meta Restaurant in Keong Saik Jalan, which catapulted into the top 50 this year at number 20. Last year, it ranked at number 60 and was the winner of the One To Watch award.

Modern Singaporean restaurant Labyrinth at Esplanade Mall maintained its number 40 ranking, while other restaurants almost fell.
This includes Les Amis (which fell from number 13 last year to 23 this year), Zen (from number 23 to 37), Burnt Ends (from number 14 to 41) and Cloudstreet (from number 31 to 44).

Other honors went to Japanese chef Natsuko Shoji of Ete (No. 42) in Tokyo, who won Best Female Chef in Asia; as well as Eat and Cook (No. 81) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – which received the One To Watch award.

Some new names on the list include Villa Aida from Wakayama, Japan, which received the highest award for a new entry for its debut at number 14, as well as a familiar name to foodies – Raan Jay Fai (#46) in Bangkok, the best known . for his crab omelette.
Missing from the top 50 list are Restaurant Euforia on Tras Street and Kirk Westaway’s Jaan at Swissotel The Stamford.
Both fell from the top 50 ranking to the list of 51 to 100 restaurants announced last week (March 22). Restaurant Euforia fell 15 points to 56, while Kirk Westaway’s Jaan fell 13 points to No.
Two Singaporean restaurants debuted in the 51 to 100 list – Lolla in Ann Siang Jalan at number 75 and Thevar in Keong Saik Jalan at number 92.

Japanese restaurant Esora in Mohamed Sultan Jalan remains on the list, moving from number 77 to number 58 this year.
Nouri in Amoy Street and Candlenut in Dempsey Road – previously in the bottom 50 list – dropped out altogether.
This list is compiled from the votes of more than 300 people, including food critics, chefs, restaurateurs and regional culinary experts.
Before last year, each member of the Academy selected 10 restaurants, at least four of which were outside their home country.

SINGAPORE – Seven restaurants were awarded their first Michelin stars on Tuesday evening (July 12), with the Republic adding two restaurants to its list of two-star establishments in the restaurant guide.
The new two-star establishments are Cloudstreet on Amoy Street, helmed by chef Rishi Naleendra; and Thevar, the head chef of trendy Indian restaurant Mano Thevar in Keong Saik Jalan.

Recently established one-star restaurants are Euforia and Hamamoto on Tras Street, La Dame de Pic at Raffles Hotel, Marguerite at Gardens By The Bay, Nae:um at Telok Ayer and Reve at Kreta Ayer Road. Burnt Ends, which moved to Dempsey, is also on the list of new stars.
Les Amis at the Shaw Centre, Odette at the National Gallery and Zen at Bukit Pasoh retained their three stars.
Rounding out the list of one-star restaurants are Corner House, Garibaldi and Shinji by Kanesaka at The St Regis.
Two restaurants, Esora and Shang Palace, retain their one-star status despite having new chefs. Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle is the only snack stall on the Michelin list.

About 450 people from the food industry attended the ceremony, the first in person since the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the event at Marina Bay Sands, which launched the sixth edition of the Michelin Guide Singapore, guests sat down to a six-course meal led by Chef Tetsuya Wakuda of Waku Gin, winner of two Michelin stars, and Tristin Farmer of three. – Zen with a Michelin star.
They are joined by four Singaporean chefs working abroad: Chef Barry Quek of Hong Kong-starred Whey; Angela Lai of the two-star Tairroir in Taipei; Matthew Leong of two-star Re-Naa in Norway; and Jimmy Lim of the two-star JL Studio in Taichung, Taiwan.
Chef Mano Thevar, 32, said of his restaurant’s second star: “Let’s see how far we can push the boundaries. But at the end of the day, food has to taste good. That’s the key.”

Singapore chef Jason Tan, 39, whose Euforia opened in 2020, said: “It’s a young team and the stars are boosting their morale. We will strive to do great things.”
Surprisingly on the one-star list is Reve, a Japanese-French restaurant that opened last October.
Its head chef, Mr Masahiko Kawano, 38, said: “Our restaurant has been open for about a year. I am very happy.”
