In the heart of Edinburgh, The Voodoo Rooms is the perfect restaurant for couples or for a first date experience that you won’t forget. The White Horse is an oyster bar and one of Edinburgh’s best seafood restaurants. Situated on the site of the oldest pub in the Royal Mile, this restaurant sources its seafood from boutique vendors throughout Scotland. Enjoy a shared plate while sipping wine and cocktails; very fashionable.
Chaophraya is a modern Thai restaurant with stunning rooftop views of Edinburgh Castle and the Firth of Forth. They also have vegan and gluten free options. Haggis has been to Chaofraya a couple of times and there’s a reason he returns: a well-stocked bar. But I think maybe the great view of Edinburgh Castle has something to do with it …

The Devil’s Advocate is a bar and kitchen located in an old Victorian pumping station. It’s just off the Royal Mile at Advocates Close. The dining room is on the mezzanine; There is a great bar downstairs with 400 whiskey. The menu changes monthly and uses seasonal and Scottish ingredients. It is an intimate, exclusive restaurant, perfect for an exceptional romantic dinner. Book a table in advance.
Orocco Pier is highly recommended by my sister. Haggis’s cousin also had his wedding here. Orocco Pier has a relaxing cafe for lunch and a restaurant serving meat and seafood dishes with seasonal vegetables set against the beautiful backdrop of Forth Bridges. The food is delicious and I couldn’t think of a better view than Forth Bridges to eat and enjoy cocktails.
There are two Howies restaurants in Edinburgh; one on Victoria Street and one on Waterloo Place. I had dinner on Victoria Street, one of the most beautiful streets in Edinburgh. The menu is traditionally Scottish with food sourced locally. They also have a great wine selection and serve Scottish craft beer as well as Scotch whiskey and gin. Their sticky butterscotch pudding dessert is an ace. If you’re looking for something a bit quirky and traditional Scottish, book a table here.
Honestly, any leafy bohemian restaurant is my go-to place. The Black Ivy is actually a self-proclaimed “local luxury” hotel in Bruntsfield, with an excellent restaurant for breakfast, lunch or dinner. This is especially the bonnie around the Christmas season when it is covered with festive decorations. Here everyone will find something for themselves – come for breakfast, cocktail, lunch or beer by the fireplaces on the patio.

Harmonium has to be the coolest, coolest vegan restaurant in Edinburgh. Located in Leith, it’s worth the walk [or bus] from the city center. Their menu is quite laid back and consists of stone-baked pizza, quarters and delicious desserts. They also have a great selection of organic wines, local beers and beers, and seasonal cocktails. The interior is relaxed and nods to Leith’s rich history. Harmonium is also dog friendly.
Why do we love it? In addition to being environmentally friendly, Harmonium proves that vegan food can taste better than meat. You can also take your dog to dinner.
If you’re looking for a unique and fun experience, Six By Nico has just that. The restaurant is owned by chef Nico Simeone, who prepares a new six-course menu every six weeks. Each menu has a different theme, location, memory, or idea.
