The series premiered in 2002 on Fox with a panel of stars Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson.

Where they admitted they weren’t sure the show’s premise could work — until Clarkson walked in the door.

“Honestly, I don’t believe we’d be sitting here today if you hadn’t come on the show that year,” Cowell said. “The whole premise of the show was that we had to find a star that would sell records. We’ve been finding great people all year, but when you showed that moment at the first live show and sang that winning song at the end…”

Jackson added: “We looked at each other at the end of the final and said, ‘Wow, this thing is really going to work.’ I think that was the moment we realized.”

It soon became a pop culture phenomenon, spawning winners such as Reuben Studdard, Carrie Underwood and Jordin Sparks. The series also turned undefeated contestants, including Chris Daughtry, Adam Lambert and Jennifer Hudson, into household names.

“I always kept in mind, ‘If this doesn’t work out, I have to do the best thing, and I won ‘American Idol,'” Underwood said. “I thought, ‘OK, I’m just going to have fun with it, save as much money as I can, finish school and get a real job.’ Because I’m always a practical thinker and I would never allow myself to think that it would always work.”

American Idol Recap: Season 17, Episode 18

The original series ended in 2016, but returned two years later on ABC. The revamped show featured a brand new set of judges featuring Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. American Idol set another milestone when it named its first domestic winner, Just Sam, in Season 18 in May 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. View full size. Last night “American Idol” presented the top 13 finalists. Ten of these singers were voted by America, the other three were chosen by the judges.

The judges selected six contestants who sang for their lives in the hope of being selected for one of the three coveted wild cards. The six were: Jen Hirsch, Jeremy Rosado, Brielle Von Hugel, Deandre Brackensick, Erica Van Pelt and Reed Grimm.

I was so happy that Jeremy and Erica got another shot because I think they deserve a spot in the Top 13. As for Deandre and Brielle, I was totally blown away when their names were called. They weren’t good enough this week to get a second chance. What about Creighton Fraker? I thought for sure he would get a second chance, but instead the judges chose their friend, the weird and unique contestant Reid.

Of the three jokers, Deandre? come I thought his version of “Georgia,” a song he’s been singing all his life, was just as bad, if not worse, than his cover of Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Reasons” on Tuesday night. Deandre seems like a really good kid, but he’s not in the top 5 for a reason and I don’t see him lasting long in this competition.

I was surprised by some possibilities. I thought Halle Day deserved a shot, as did Jen Hirsch. As she sang for her life, Hirsch proved she had a great tone to carry it, but they didn’t give her a chance.

I was amazed that Adam Brock and Creighton Fraker weren’t asked to sing a second time. Their voices are incredible and much, much stronger than some of the other male jocks.

I was also sad to see one of my favorites – Reed – say goodbye. But I’ll be honest. He didn’t choose well when he sang for a living.

American Idol’ Top 11 Movie Night: Lights, Camera, Action!

One of the saddest parts of the show is watching all the contestants who couldn’t get along and leave the stage. I know it happens to all but one singer eventually, but you see their shoulders slump, the excitement fades, and it hurts to watch them fall short of their dreams.

Next week, the girls will sing the songs of the late Whitney Houston, and the boys will pay tribute to Stevie Wonder. I think the guys will do well, but as for the women… I predict they’ll have a rough week.

The photo of Katy Perry wearing Ariel from “The Little Mermaid” immediately went viral, firstly because it was a novelty, and secondly because she had yet another wardrobe malfunction, this time falling over while sitting.

The ten remaining singers used everything in their power to top Katy Perry’s performance, and that’s hard to do; for example, Christian Guardino sang the classic “Circle of life” from The Lion King.

Although it was supposed to be a magical event, there were still several eliminations, this time three singers were forced to leave the show, leaving only 7 left.

Lady Kay sang Moana’s “How Far I’ll Go” and it wasn’t up to par, which got her kicked out of the show.

Emerson Flora’s choice was Onward’s “Carried Me With You” which is not a very popular song from the Disney Songbook, it was a more obscure song that didn’t fit her style and unfortunately that eliminated her.

Mike Parker transported the audience to the jungle with a very emotional song from Tarzan called “You’ll Be in My Heart”, a deeply sentimental song that Parker dedicated to his mother who is currently battling leukemia. Unfortunately, he was also eliminated. Fox Hit’s eighth season of the talent competition premieres January 13-14 from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. EST, does just that. It will now include the return of wild card finalists chosen by the show’s judges, as well as reduced airtime for memorable auditions, according to the Associated Press.

Executive producer Ken Warwick said at a press conference Monday that he won’t completely abandon his commitment to talentless contestants. “I would have a pretty boring show, and that wouldn’t be fair,” he said.

Instead, they’re simply shortening the nationwide competition from four weeks to three, narrowing it down to 12 finalists, nine chosen by the audience and three singers chosen by the judges: Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson and a previously announced newcomer, singer-songwriter Cara DioGuardi.

Posted their worst figures last year, down 7 per cent on the previous year, but Warwick won’t admit that was the reason. “There were no panicky changes. … This show wouldn’t be on TV for eight years if it wasn’t done right,” he said. Ugh.

The humanitarian project of the “Idol Returns” show was also stopped. They will probably come back every year, Warrick said. He also cited the additional production demands the charity creates and the current economic climate, the AP reported.

And as for the stalker competitors, they too will try to reduce the number of lunatics. Warwick was asked about Abdul’s claims that the show put her in danger for allowing alleged stalker Paulie Goodspeed to audition for the previous season. Last month, Goodspeed was found dead in an apparent suicide in a car outside Abdul’s Los Angeles home.

“I certainly wouldn’t put a dangerous person in front of the judges or someone I thought was even remotely dangerous,” he said. According to Warwick, “everyone is psychologically tested before they come in,” the show does everything it can to vet the contestants.
